Leading an ESOS Assessment
Face-to-face | In-company
Overview
The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK that meet the qualification criteria. For the current requirements, visit the UK Government website.
Organisations that qualify must carry out an ESOS assessment every four years. These assessments are audits of the energy used by their buildings, industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures. The assessments must be led, planned and approved by an approved ESOS Lead Energy Assessor (LEA). IChemE is an approved authority to award this status and this course is a prerequisite to registration as an LEA with us.
The course provides those experienced in energy assessment with the necessary knowledge to lead, review and approve an ESOS assessment that will incorporate energy and net zero requirements. It uses a series of short lectures, classroom discussions, video clips, and examples from commerce and industry, allowing you to critically analyse, assess and define the aspects of leading, reviewing, and approving an assessment in your current and future employment.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, you will have gained a thorough knowledge of:
- the processes of leading, reviewing, and approving an assessment according to ESOS and PAS 51215-1 (see additional core competency information)
- the competency requirements of a Lead Energy Assessor according to PAS 51215-2
- using data analysis as a basis to scope the energy and net zero assessment and to inform opportunities for improvement
- the common variables that drive energy consumption and GHG emissions
- applying systems thinking in energy and net zero assessment.
You will have to complete and pass a post-course assessment within seven days of the course in order to become registered as an ESOS Lead Energy Assessor.
Who will benefit
Those who wish to become a registered ESOS Lead Energy Assessor to provide energy and net zero assessment for their company and/or wish to undertake external consulting work in energy and net zero assessment to comply with ESOS regulation or follow the principles of PAS 51215-1.
