Asset-Based Modelling, Design, and Implementation of Industrial Control

Until recently, industrial control – whether process or plant control – was traditionally modelled and implemented with a strong focus on process or plant operations and control theory, closely aligning with the application engineer's perspective. This approach offered little to other key personas involved in plant operations, maintenance and management. These individuals had to grasp control application concepts and theory to the extent necessary to perform their duties effectively, making it challenging to measure and optimise the use of assets like machinery and equipment. Consequently, additional software, tools, and technologies were deployed to manage and optimise these assets.

The advent of AI at the edge is revolutionising this landscape by enabling equipment and machinery to become self-aware and contextually responsive, acting autonomously rather than being driven by a central brain.

During his presentation, Sarat will talk about the UAO runtime, an innovative implementation of the IEC 61499 standard, leverages core principles such as 'control distribution', 'object-based modeling, design and implementation of control applications', 'event-driven execution of control', and 'device and resource modelling' to accelerate the realisation of the vision for "Asset-Centric/Asset-Based Modelling, Design and Implementation of Industrial Control'.
