Danckwerts Lecture
The Danckwerts Lecture was established in 1985 to honour Professor Peter V. Danckwerts as a leading scholar in the field of chemical engineering and for his contributions as an Executive Editor of Chemical Engineering Science. Danckwerts was the second Shell Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, and past president of the IChemE.
The Danckwerts Lecture is co-sponsored by Chemical Engineering Science, IChemE, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE). It is held in Europe as part of the European Congress of Chemical Engineering in odd years and in the US during the AIChE Annual Meeting in even years.
Nominees are expected to have made very strong contributions to research and its application in practice, and to be recognised as an international authority in their field. They should be able to give a lecture that is appropriate to the aim and scope of the journal Chemical Engineering Science.
Anybody can make a nomination for this medal. When nominating, you will be asked to submit basic personal and contact details for the nominee as well as yourself, plus a 1200 word justification which should cover:
- The nominee’s impact on the science of chemical engineering.
- Their impact on the application of chemical engineering.
- Their ability as a public speaker.
The nomination will be shared with members of the judging panel, which will comprise representatives from Chemical Engineering Science, IChemE, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the European Federation of Chemical Engineering. All nominations will be kept on file and will be considered for three years following submission, unless the nominator asks for the nomination to be withdrawn.
How to nominate
Nominations for the 2025 Danckwerts Lecture are now open.
