Overview
Hydrogen is a key area of growth within the energy industry. This webinar series aims to raise awareness, and prompt debate, focusing on process safety management as a key area of concern for all projects, particularly when they are in growth areas and involve new technology and processes.
This third webinar in the series will focus on H2 liquid fuel for shipping including green ammonia. It will also look at transportation of liquid H2 by sea.

James Walker, Hydrogen Development Manager, EMEC
Safety first: lessons from handling hydrogen in the maritime environment
James is the hydrogen development manager at EMEC, where he is responsible for identifying and pursuing new opportunities to develop research and development activities in the hydrogen sector.
James joined EMEC from the Carbon Trust, where he worked in energy systems consulting focussed on decarbonisation. Prior to that James completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research in the School of Chemical Engineering.
Jerry Gibson, Operations Technician, EMEC
Safety first: lessons from handling hydrogen in the maritime environment
Jerry is EMEC’s operations technician. She is focused on maintaining hydrogen asset integrity and managing equipment engineering specifications in liaison with suppliers.
Jerry has a specific responsibility for safety and process improvement in EMEC’s hydrogen activities, and notably supported the delivery of a recent world first training course in Orkney for maritime hydrogen safety. Before joining EMEC, she worked in marine engineering onboard Northlink Ferries vessels.
Tomas Ryberg, Equinor
Clean energy carriers for maritime application – distribution and end use perspectives
Tomas works as an Advisor to Equinor for Low Carbon Ship Technology focusing on which low and zero carbon fuels will be the best options to reduce Equinor's maritime emissions within different ship segments. Tomas has an MSc in Energy and Environmental technology from NTNU, Norway. He worked as a Process Engineer for Aker Kværner, researcher on fuel cell and hydrogen production technology at CMR Protech before starting in Equinor. Tomas also has experience as project manager for a demonstration project for Hydrogen fuel cells on a passenger ferry.
In Equinor Tomas was the System Integration lead for the first Unmanned Wellhead Platform in Equinor service and Process responsible for the Liquid CO2 ships developed for the Northern Lights CCS project. In his current position he works in the Shipping department of Marketing, Midstream and Processing unit in Equinor, where his main task is linking their ambitions to reduce maritime emissions with initiating production of decarbonized fuels.
