Ahmad Nazrene Kamarulzaman, Custodian (Water Technology), Group Technical Solutions, Petronas
Ahmad Nazrene Kamarulzaman is a utility water custodian engineer in PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions (GTS). He has 30 years of experience in the utility water technology field. He started his early career in various multinational organisations and joined PETRONAS in 2002. In his early days in PETRONAS, he was tasked to set up the Utility Water sub-discipline and has been leading the discipline since then. His main focus areas are on utility water systems holistic improvement, failure analysis, chemical cleaning, capital project support, and turnaround support.
Shiew Wei Lau, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Curtin University Malaysia
Lau Shiew Wei is an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Curtin University, Malaysia. Dr.Lau’s research expertise focuses on sustainable solutions for wastewater and sludge treatment, including bioflocculation, sludge conditioning and dewatering, and biomass utilisation, in addition to her commitment to engineering education as chair of accreditation and staff professional development and chair of sustainability education working group at Curtin University, Malaysia.
Dr Lau holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Curtin University, Western Australia, and a Master’s and a Bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia. A Chartered Professional Engineer with the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and Fellow of Advance Higher Education (formerly Higher Education Academy, UK), she brings both practical and theoretical insights into sustainability-focused engineering education.
Somil Mehta, APAC TS&D Leader – Water Solutions, DuPont
Somil is APAC TS&D Leader for Water Solutions business at DuPont. He leads a team of experts in the Water industry who help solve customer technical challenges with innovative solutions that DuPont Water Solutions has to offer.
Somil started his career with Rohm and Haas Company in 2008 at its Spring House, Pennsylvania R&D centre as Senior Scientist for Home & Personal Care business. He relocated back to India in 2010 to join the Dow Chemical Company’s Water Treatment Chemicals business as Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Scientist; and grew through the organization to become global subject matter expert in the antiscalants domain. During this stint, he was instrumental in establishing various technology centers and building innovation capabilities by leading a team of experts across the globe.
In 2016, Somil was appointed as TS&D leader for Energy & Water business for India; with oversight of TS&D support for EMEAI region. Later in 2019, he joined DuPont Water Solutions business as TS&D leader for India, SEA and A/NZ and joined R&D leadership team. In his previous role, Somil was named as global Innovation Growth leader for Water business in 2022, where he led the innovation engine of Water Solutions business to support customer/business driven innovation ideas into new product launches.
