Overview

This webinar will describe advances in data analytics that can be used to improve product quality and process efficiency. Topics covered include soft sensor development using machine learning techniques, multivariate statistical process monitoring and calibration model development using spectroscopic data. Industrial applications of these techniques will be given.

Speakers

Jie Zhang, Reader, Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology

Dr Zhang received his PhD in control engineering from City University, London, in 1991. He has been with the School of Engineering (Chemical Engineering), Newcastle University, UK, since 1991 and is Reader in Process Systems Engineering. His research interests are in the general areas of process system engineering including process modelling, process control, process monitoring, and computational intelligence. He has published over 300 papers in international journals, books, and conference proceedings.

Alison Nordon, Professor, Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology

Alison is a Professor in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and is the Technical Director of the Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT).

Alison has over 20 years’ experience in on-line spectroscopic (optical, acoustic and nuclear magnetic resonance) measurements and multivariate data analysis in the field of process analysis. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers covering technique and instrumentation development, advances in data analysis methods, and process monitoring applications across a wide range of industries, eg pharmaceutical, nuclear, petrochemical and speciality chemicals.
