Speakers

Lai Jia Yen, Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Malaysia

Lai Jia Yen is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. Jia Yen is currently Yayasan Sarawak Tun Taib Scholarship holder to financial support her study. She obtained her Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in Curtin University, Malaysia in 2015 and Master of Engineering (by research) in Swinburne in 2018. Her Master research project was about surfactant template recycling for continuous mesoporous MCM-41 material synthesis. The surfactant template found to recycle up to 8 cycles to synthesize MCM-41. In 2012, she joined Shin Yang Plywood Sdn. Bhd. in Miri, Sarawak as an intern in R&D department in paper tape product processing and overall sizing and costing for product delivery. She was invited as keynote speaker for Material Fuel Cell and Hydrogen (MFCH2021) Webinar by Research Center for Physics, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia in 2021. She joined BEM as graduate engineer for Branch of Engineering (Chemical) in February 2022. She was the recipient of the Top Cited Greenhouse Gases: Science and Technology Article (2020-2021) (WILEY), Top Cited Greenhouse Gases: Science and Technology Review Paper (2021-2022) (WILEY), and Top Downloaded Article (Review Paper) for Greenhouse Gases: Science and Technology (2022) (WILEY).

Yeow Teck Ann, Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia

Yeow Teck Ann is a final year chemical engineering student at Xiamen University Malaysia. Teck Ann is an IOI scholar and the holder of Dean's List award. Teck Ann is privileged to receive the Research Student Assistantship and involve in multiple research projects in Dr Tan Jian Ping's research group. He has developed strong interest in discovering new biochemical processes and tacking problems faced by the palm oil industry. Currently, he is bootstrapping for an early stage entrepreneurial idea which focuses on the upcycling of oil palm fronds for biofertilizer production. In addition to that, Teck Ann is serving as the president of XMUM IChemE Student Chapter and was the director at Young Malaysian Engineers.

Ng Wai Lun, School of Computing Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation and Technology, Taylor's University, Malaysia

Wai Lun is currently a PhD candidate at Taylor’s University, Malaysia researching on resource recovery from glycerin pitch. He graduated with First Class Honours Degree in Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Taylor’s University in 2020 and obtained Dean’s List and Book Prize awards for all eight semesters. In 2019, he interned at BASF Petronas and was actively involved in the root cause failure analysis of a compressor breakdown and taught control valve sizing to his superiors. For his final year group project, Wai Lun designed a steam reformer that earned his team the first place in the engineering fair. Wai Lun’s final year research project was about condenser water treatment technologies in proving the validity of a building criteria published by Green Building Index (GBI).

Loh Chee Yan, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia

Loh Chee Yan is currently a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of New Energy Science and Engineering with Honours at Xiamen University Malaysia. She has consistently earned the Dean's List Award throughout her academic journey. During her third-year studies, Chee Yan completed an internship at Pentas Flora, where she served as a laboratory trainee with responsibilities including oil analysis and quality assessments. Besides, she has enthusiastically joined Dr. Lai Sin Yuan’s research group to develop her research and writing skills. Her undergraduate research focuses on designing and fabricating a bifunctional catalyst to convert palm oil into a renewable energy resource – biodiesel. Her exceptional dedication and performance led to her receiving the IChemE's POPSIG Student Research Project Bursary 2023.
