Overview
This event is open to all chemical engineering students for all universities. The registration deadline was 22 March 2021. The recording on a few sessions will be available from 12 April 2021.

Speakers
Dr Viknesh Andiappan
Dr Viknesh Andiappan is an assistant professor at Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia. He now serves as the Deputy Chair of IChemE POPSIG.
In 2013, he obtained his MEng. (Hons.) in chemical engineering from the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. Later that year, he was the recipient of the Dean PhD Research Scholarship at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. He completed his PhD within two and half years in 2016. In 2017, he obtained Chartered Engineer qualifications and is currently a Chartered member of IChemE. In 2019, he was shortlisted as the finalist for the IChemE Young Researcher Malaysia Awards.
Ir Hong Wai Onn
Ir Hong Wai Onn is the Technical Service Manager of Novozymes, with responsibility for technical services of vegetable oil processing for Southeast Asia. He is the current honorary secretary of IChemE in Malaysia Board and founder of IChemE Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group.
He has more than 10 years operational experience in the palm oil and mineral and mining industries covering a very wide spectrum of responsibilities including production, engineering, project management and leadership roles. He sits on the Industry Advisory Panel for Chemical Engineering at two universities.
He received his degree in Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from the University Malaysia Sabah in 2006. He is a Professional Engineer, a Chartered Chemical Engineer and a Professional Process Safety Engineer.
Ir Dr Christina Phang
Ir Dr Christina Phang is a Fellow of the IChemE and a Professional Process Safety Engineer. She is also a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers (BEM) in Malaysia and Professional Engineers Board (PEB) in Singapore.
Her recent past 23 years was invested in ERM serving in various technical, operational and commercial roles, the last being the Commercial Director for Safety Services in Asia Pacific. Christina possesses strong business operations acumen which is reflected in her successful track record in delivering excellent financial performance at country and regional levels Managing Partner roles. She was also a Director for all of ERM's business entities in Malaysia.
Christina has 30 years’ experience in technical safety (Process Safety) and risk management predominantly spent working in the oil and gas sector providing advice relating to safety engineering during project development, commissioning and construction through to operational and decommissioning phases.
During the early 1990s, Christina worked at the University of Sheffield in association with the Major Hazard Section of the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) on a funded research project focused on gaining a deeper understanding of how management factors and critical decisions affect major accident events.
Ms Tharshinye Soomaran
Ms Tharshinye Soomaran is an Associate Fellow of Malaysian Institute of Management. She was a pioneer in coordinating, planning and setting up the 10th government agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. She has close to 15 years’ experience in strategic management and planning and a record of achievement in progressively challenging roles in MNC as well as public sectors. Tharshinye had been involved in supporting many organisational structures in supporting start-up projects directly for Malaysia Steel Institute, etc. She is skilled in leading and managing region’s operations with IChemE. Tharshinye is a Country Manager at IChemE based in Kuala Lumpur.
Her personal ethos can be summed up as H20 – Humble and Hungry, Zero Exceptions.
Ms Areej Taufik
Areej Taufik joined Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) in April 2020 during the first movement control order (MCO) and is currently working as Senior Executive in the Science, Environment, and Sustainability Division. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Hons) Food Studies from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and later completed her postgraduate studies at the School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds (LU), United Kingdom and has been awarded with Master of Science in Food Quality and Innovation. Her postgraduate research focused on the development of a microwavable pre-fried ice-cream dessert, suitable for the British market. She has experience in policy studies, as well as food quality and product development.
Mr Ceasar Nair
Ceasar Nair is the Chief Operating Officer at KEWPUMP (M) Sdn Bhd. He is the Head of Manufacturing and Foundry Operations at KEWPUMP. He obtained B.Com in New Zealand. He has 15 years experience in KEWPUMP group of companies and 10 years in various MNCs in Singapore. In this event, he will be the main speaker delivering the Introduction to the Company, and Virtual Site and Laboratory Tours.
Mr Chai Jin Hann
Chai Jin Hann is the Chief Technical Officer at KEWPUMP (M) Sdn Bhd. He is the Head of Design, R&D, Engineering and Quality Operations at KEWPUMP. He obtained B.Eng (Hons) from Universiti Malaya. He has 23 years working experience in KEWPUMP group of companies. In this event, he will respond to the questions from the participants during live, synchronous Q&A session.
