Overview

Advances in technology are creating skills gaps that the industry is struggling to fill. Not only is it now necessary for engineers at all career stages to be constantly engaging with updating their technical knowledge, there is also an impact on the non technical skills required to support these changes as roles shift and become redefined. This research project between the University of Loughborough and the IMechE has been mapping these skills gaps and looking at what solutions will be needed to fill them.

Speaker

Dr Caroline Walker, IMechE

Dr Caroline Walker’s career has spanned 13 years as a biochemist in academic research followed by a 20 year business career in the brewing industry with the last 13 years at the board level. She joined the IMechE as an associate in the learning and development team in 2018 and, with her experience as an accredited coach, has specialised in supporting those with a STEM background to become business-savvy leaders.
