Webinar: Advanced Oxidation Processes for a Clean Environment
- Date From 2nd October 2024
- Date To 2nd October 2024

- Location Online: 14:00 BST. Duration: 1 hour.
Overview
Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) are those processes that produce highly reactive radical species, particularly hydroxyl radicals, in sufficient quantities to oxidise contaminants. They are typically based on primary oxidants such as ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and UV-light. Other emerging AOPs (eg non-thermal plasma) have been researched for the degradation of environmentally significant contaminants.
This webinar will review the science and engineering of key AOPs and highlight how these processes will address considerable environmental challenges, qualifying them as the “treatment processes of the 21st century”. The talk will also demonstrate key barriers to the implementation of AOPs and future AOP-research needs.
Speaker
Chedly Tizaoui, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Swansea University
Chedly Tizaoui is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Swansea University, UK. He conducts research in advanced oxidation and separation processes, and he is currently leading the water and resources recovery research lab, working on research projects to tackle several water treatment and other environmental challenges. Tizaoui has particular focus on treatment processes based on ozone, non-thermal plasma, photocatalysis, membrane, and filtration to eradicate emerging contaminants in water (eg PFAS, PPCPs).
Tizaoui is the Editor-in-Chief of Ozone: Science & Engineering, a journal of the International Ozone Association published by Taylor & Francis. He was the Director of the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Portfolio at Swansea University. With a funding portfolio of several millions of pounds, Tizaoui has led many research projects funded by research councils, industry, and government funding. He has extensively published peer-reviewed scientific articles in leading water, environmental, and chemical engineering research journals, book chapters, and conferences, and authored numerous professional reports. Tizaoui is a recipient of the Harvey Rosen Award in recognition of his work on ozone application for tackling SARS-CoV-2.
