Overview

The production of low carbon fuels through the gasification of waste and biomass residues is important for the delivery of net zero commitments. The technology enables the low-cost capture of biogenic carbon dioxide that can be geologically sequestered to generate negative carbon emissions that offset the positive emissions from other sectors of the economy.

Advanced Biofuel Solutions is commissioning a plant that converts around one tonne per hour of household waste into 3MW of low-carbon natural gas while capturing 800 kg of carbon dioxide. The plant will be the first in the world to demonstrate the process on a full-time basis in a commercial environment.

This webinar presents a brief overview of the project and then runs through the problems that have arisen from commissioning the plant to date and solutions found by the development team. These include fundamental design errors, issues with material handling, and developing operational procedures against a background of technical uncertainty typical of research and development projects.
