Micropore Technologies

Micropore’s patented metallic membrane technologies provide a novel way to control the size distributions of nano- and micro-scale particles and emulsions, solving the formulation challenges of stability and consistency for a variety of life-science and industrial customers.

The 2019 IChemE Pharma Global Award recognised it for solving the scale-up challenge of membrane emulsification, whilst retaining the size control benefits. Traditional emulsification methods, e.g. in rotor-stator homogenisation, give broad size distributions, and use very high shear. Micropore’s highly configurable modular Advanced Crossflow (AXF) technology uses low shear conditions to generate near-monodisperse emulsions. This allows seamless scale-up from automated lab formulation screening systems, to commercial manufacture at tonne/hour volumes. It also enables aseptic production of challenging formulations such as controlled release PLGA microparticles.
In 2021 the same technology received the IChemE Pharma Global Award for Lipid Nanoparticle micromixing applications. It is also attracting a growing interest for its benefits in continuous crystallisation.
