Overview

To achieve the net zero transition, there is a need to scale up the production of low carbon alternative fuels eg hydrogen. However, this introduces fresh challenges that are different from existing fossil fuels.

This presentation will discuss the unique properties of hydrogen, the hazards involved in its production and use and the safeguards required to mitigate and control them. We will discuss previous incidents involving the use of hydrogen whilst also providing insight into the safe use of hydrogen.

Speaker

Oyinda Gunn, Principal Process Safety Engineer, Axiom Ltd.

Oyinda studied chemical engineering at the University of Lagos, followed by an MSc in safety, risk and reliability engineering at Herriot Watt University. She has over 15 years’ process safety experience working in the oil and gas and energy sectors with Technip and Whessoe Engineering. Projects have included incident investigation on refinery sites, design of cryogenic storage tanks and import terminals, HAZID and HAZOP of a liquid hydrogen storage tank projects.
