Overview
You are invited to attend our annual meeting, featuring a guest presentation from local industry on emergent technology, as well as review of the year's activity from the group.
We have a number of exciting opportunities to join our committee this year (see descriptions below). Expected time commitment over the year is expected to be 2-4hrs per month (varies based on events), including a monthly Teams committee meeting.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering provides an interesting and rewarding opportunity to develop personal skills and network with other professionals, as well as the opportunity to support the advancement of chemical engineering. It is widely accepted that volunteering will help you meet new people, learn new skills, contribute to your continuing professional development (CPD), and even advance your career. Academic Liaison
You will serve as a vital link between Scottish academic institutions and the Scottish Members Group. This role involves fostering collaborative relationships, facilitating communication, and coordinating joint initiatives between the SMG committee, industry participants and the academic institution to enhance educational opportunities and potential research advancements. Find out more and apply here.
Professional Development Lead
As the lead for professional development, you will act as a representative for the evolving interests of our local members and associated upskilling, while helping to provide a framework for managing professional development for chemical engineers. Responsibilities include such activities as organising member surveys, organising and disseminating formal IChemE CPD events, and allowing members to share knowledge and enhance their reputation. Find out more and apply here.
STEM Coordination Lead
As STEM coordination lead, you will be responsible for developing our presence at STEM events across the central belt. The role may involve engagement with the universities, schools and the Scottish STEM network. Previous events where IChemE have participated include careers fairs, speed networking, presentations. Your role would be to identify events and lead IChemE volunteers to make an impact on inspiring the next generation. Find out more and apply here.
General Member
General members for the Scottish Member Group Committee will play an integral role in organising events throughout the year. As a minimum, members will be required to plan one event a year (eg a technical talk, site tour, disastrous dinner, social event). This could involve hiring venues, booking speakers and chairing the event. It’s a great example for those working towards chartership (Section D1) or for those looking to give back and volunteer for the institute. Find out more and apply here.
