Overview

Wildfire Energy is a cleantech start-up established in 2016 that is developing a revolutionary new gasification technology called Moving Injection Horizontal Gasification (MIHG) to convert biomass and waste feedstocks into energy and chemicals. Wildfire Energy has an MIHG pilot plant at its Research and Development facility located at the former BP Refinery in Pinkenba, Brisbane.

Wildfire Energy’s MIHG pilot plant can convert up to 1 tpd of feedstock into synthesis gas (syngas) and also includes a gas treatment train to clean the gas prior to use and a hydrogen separation unit. The purpose of the R&D facility is to optimise the design and operating procedures for the MIHG technology and to gather performance data for the conversion of various waste feedstocks prior to scaling up to bigger projects. The next step is a planned commercial demonstration project to process up to 120 tpd of feedstock and generate electricity and hydrogen.

The main activities at the facility are the development of the MIHG technology, operation of the pilot plant to convert waste feedstock into synthesis gas, product sampling and testing of different design configurations.
