Overview
Take a tour of the department facilities and laboratories, meet the staff members and become acquainted with current research activities.
The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering has developed five research themes to solve the challenges we face today and to support the University of Auckland's research goals and strategies. The themes concentrate on research which contributes to the following:
- Novel and new materials
- Innovative processes and control
- Food and nutrition
- Energy and environment
- Health and wellbeing
Innovative and enterprising research is currently taking place at the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, and several presentations during this visit will cover the most recent works and research activities in these themes.
The new 10-story engineering faculty at the University of Auckland was completed in late 2019, providing students with tailor-made spaces to support learning, accommodate larger student cohorts, and encourage multi-disciplinary collaboration. The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department moved into the new space at the beginning of 2020, and this visit will take a tour of the department showcasing the research facilities and the research activities of staff and students.
The laboratories include:
- Resource recovery lab
- Bioprocessing lab
- Membrane filtration lab
- Biomaterial lab
- Analytical lab
- Heat treatment and mechanical testing lab
- Coating and energy materials lab
- Metallography lab
- Ceramic processing lab
- Nanomechanical lab
