Overview
The First Steps into the Industry is a career mentoring series to help internship seekers, final year students and graduates explore career pathways in the post-pandemic energy industry. Session 2, hosted by UTP IChemE Student Chapter, focuses on Getting a job during the oil and gas sector recovery period.
The forum features three young engineers, coming from an upstream, midstream and downstream background respectively. The speakers will introduce how the potential career pathways look like, provide career advice and guidance, and tips and tricks on getting a role in their respective industries.
The First Steps series is student-driven. Students and early career engineers are encouraged to ask questions and network with the speakers.
Speakers
Pravin Nair Venugopalan, Wells Engineer, PETRONAS Carigali
Pravin is currently a wells engineer with PETRONAS, having spent four years in the field of wells intervention and integrity in various PETRONAS assets in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Pravin graduated from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in 2017 with a bachelor's degree with honours in chemical engineering.
Tan Sze Mun, Process Engineer, Malaysia LNG
Sze Mun is a process engineer with one year of experience in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical and materials engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She is dedicated to contributing to the sustainable growth of LNG production while ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Manesha Thiyaga Rajan, Process Engineer, PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions
Manesha is a chemical engineering graduate from the University of California, Davis. Upon graduation, she joined PETRONAS as a process engineer in the company’s internal consulting arm and has four and a half years of cumulative experience in optimisation, transient and feasibility studies.
Manesha is passionate about renewables, data analytics and sustainable technology development. She is currently assigned to a hydrogen focus group within PETRONAS to drive clean energy engineering in the region. For her efforts, Manesha was awarded the Young Energy Professional of the Year (Highly Commended) 2022 by the Energy Institute (EI).
