Chemical Engineering Impact in Australia and New Zealand

The impact of chemical engineering can be felt across all aspects of society including energy, education, environmental sustainability, water, healthcare, and food technology.

Researchers in the chemical engineering discipline are working to address the world’s challenges and this project was carried out to focus on the contribution made by researchers in Australia and New Zealand.

Project objectives

The project aimed to demonstrate the impact of chemical engineering researchers in Australia and New Zealand. The objectives of this project were to:

  1. Produce a collection of research case studies to highlight the breadth of chemical engineering and demonstrate how the discipline is making a real change for a better future for Australia, New Zealand and the globe.
  2. Promote understanding of how chemical engineers are contributing to an equitable and sustainable future.

Outputs

The outputs of the project were:

  1. Chemical Engineering Impact in Australia, volume 1
  2. Chemical Engineering Impact in Australia, volume 2
  3. Chemical Engineering Impact in Australia and New Zealand, volume 3

Completion statement

This project was completed in November 2021.

This collection highlights the breadth and depth of chemical engineering in Australia and New Zealand to demonstrate how the discipline is making real change for a better future. This contributes to the public understanding of what chemical engineers do to achieve an equitable and sustainable future.

A special thanks to Professor Cordelia Selomulya and Peter Slane for coordinating this project and the many researchers who provided contributions to this booklet.
