IChemE releases new Climate Change Briefing

IChemE has released its updated Climate Change BriefingThe revised document has been published ahead of next week’s COP29 climate change conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, and details the role that chemical and process engineering must play in tackling climate change and addressing the challenges of a fair and just transition.  

Developed in consultation with IChemE members, the updated briefing explores what the Institution and chemical and process engineers across the world can do locally and globally to deliver an equitable, safe and sustainable future. This includes working closely with key stakeholders from government, academia and industry, developing new technologies, using the best available techniques, and applying a systems thinking approach.

The briefing also proposes ways in which individual members can contribute to global efforts to impact climate change and ensure a world in which everyone can thrive.  

IChemE President Mark Apsey MBE is set to attend COP29 from 18-21 November 2024. During his time in Baku, he will meet with delegates from UK and international governments to stress the importance of chemical and process engineers in making meaningful and sustainable progress around climate change.

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world.
