IChemE launches new online mentor matching initiative

IChemE launches new online mentor matching initiative

24th October 2024

IChemE is delighted to announce the launch of Mentor Match on IChemE Connect, a comprehensive new member benefit that makes it easier than ever for members to support each other with career development or on their journey towards professional registration.

Created to give members access to valuable advice and assistance from fellow chemical and process engineering professionals, Mentor Match connects mentors and mentees based on an individual’s personalised criteria. Once enrolled, members can then search for connections best suited to their needs, with many key parameters available, including industry sector, career stage, and membership grade, as well as professional support areas such as leadership, assertiveness, personal characteristics, and transitioning to a new area of our sector.

Mentors will also enjoy peer-to-peer support in a dedicated community on IChemE Connect, where they will find all the resources they need and have the opportunity to share their experiences and tips with each other.

For the first time, mentoring will be made widely available for those seeking general career and development support, not just individuals who are working towards professional registration. There are further options for members to receive support linked to gender, neurodiversity, disability, and more.

Dianne Watson, Online Community Manager, IChemE, said: “I am delighted that we are now able to use our online community to facilitate meaningful mentoring connections between our members. We are passionate about supporting our chemical and process engineers to develop their knowledge and skills to help us engineer a more sustainable world and truly believe that mentoring, from the perspective of both mentors and mentees, is one of the best ways of achieving this goal.”

The launch of Mentor Match coincides with IChemE’s newfound partnership with National Mentoring Day, the world’s largest celebration of the art of mentoring.

Chelsey Baker, Chief Executive Officer, National Mentoring Day, said: "The role of mentorship in personal and professional development is invaluable. A good mentor not only supports others in overcoming challenges and reaching their goals but also empowers them to embrace change and achieve things they never thought possible. National Mentoring Day is delighted to support IChemE in championing its mentoring initiatives and celebrating the contributions of its mentors, facilitating future connections between like-minded individuals aligned in their professional goals and values."

To enrol on Mentor Match, either as a mentor or mentee, log on to IChemE Connect and click on “Mentor Match” in the top navigation bar.

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

IChemE

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution for the benefit of society. We facilitate the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 30,000 members in more than 100 countries.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
