IChemE calls for members to participate in 2024 UK Research and Innovation Survey

2nd August 2024

IChemE is inviting its members to take part in the UK government’s 2024 UK Research and Innovation (R&I) survey.

Launched to gather information about the UK’s R&I workforce, the survey is open to everyone working in this discipline, including engineers, technicians, researchers, and managers. Survey responses are welcomed from those in all sectors and specialisms and will be used by the government to understand how members of the R&I workforce are affected by government policy.

These responses will also help the government and funders make evidence-based decisions, which may strengthen the case for workforce policies at the next spending review. Having a strong level of input from our members in this survey will ensure that their voices and perspectives are taken into account when the government analyses its results.

This is the second time a survey of this kind has been carried out. The first R&I workforce survey was conducted in 2022 and supported R&I policy work around research culture, porosity, and equality, diversity and inclusion.

If you work in research or innovation, find out more about the survey and submit your responses by 15 September 2024.

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

IChemE

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution for the benefit of society. We facilitate the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 30,000 members in more than 100 countries.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
