Free access to Perry’s Chemical Engineer’s Handbook for IChemE members

21st January 2025

The latest online edition of Perry’s Chemical Engineer’s Handbook is now available to IChemE members for free after IChemE signed an agreement with publisher McGraw Hill. A host of other technical resources are also available.

Known in the discipline as the bible of chemical engineering, Perry’s is a reference book for students, academics, and practising engineers who want to find fundamental information about a process, a type of processing equipment, or data required for a calculation.

Members can access Perry’s and hundreds of other resources by logging into MyIChemE; selecting “Resources”; and then “AccessEngineering”, which takes users directly to McGraw Hill’s online engineering reference library.

AccessEngineering includes more than 700 books on engineering technology, business skills, and engineering management, dozens of interactive graphs and spreadsheets for performing calculations, and videos demonstrating solutions to chemical engineering problems.

Among the 98 available chemical engineering books are: Schaum's Handbook of Chemical Engineering Calculations, A Working Guide to Process Equipment, and Biofuels Engineering Process Technology.

Claudia Flavell-While, IChemE’s director of learned society, said: “We are committed to continually enhancing the services we provide to our members, ensuring they have access to world-class resources that support their professional growth and empower them to contribute to a sustainable future. Through the inclusion of Perry’s and the related tools, AccessEngineering is a valuable addition to our offerings, equipping our members with cutting-edge tools and knowledge to advance their careers and drive innovation in engineering sustainability.”

IChemE members have access to a wide range of other online knowledge resources including Elsevier’s online library Knovel, which has more than 300 books including Coulson and Richardson's Chemical Engineering, and IChemE’s Knowledge Hub where members can search conference proceedings and articles from Loss Prevention Bulletin, TCE and IChemE’s journals.

What is chemical engineering?

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

IChemE

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution for the benefit of society. We facilitate the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 30,000 members in more than 100 countries.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
