Finalists announced for IChemE's Global Awards 2017

Finalists announced for IChemE's Global Awards 2017

8th September 2017

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has officially announced the finalists for the IChemE Global Awards 2017. More than 140 entries from 21 countries have made it to the final stages of the Awards, and an overall winner from each category will be revealed on 2 November 2017.

The IChemE Global Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and achievement in the chemical, process and biochemical industries. In 2016, at the ceremony in Manchester, UK, winners from around the world came to the stage to collect Awards for fascinating projects, all with environmental, societal, and economic advantages.

The Awards attracted 240 applications this year. Successful organisations in the final stage include: Al-Jubail Petrochemical Company (KEMYA), Amec Foster Wheeler, Avertana Ltd, Desolenator Ltd, GENeco, Indian Institute of Technology, Malaysian Rubber Board, PETRONAS Research Sdn. Bhd, Shell Projects & Technology, The Dow Chemical Company, University of Bath, Washington University in St. Louis, and many more.

The IChemE Global Awards, in association with Amec Foster Wheeler and Johnson Matthey, take place on 2 November 2017, at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham, UK. The ceremony is one of three international events organised by IChemE to celebrate chemical engineering achievements. Other events include the IChemE Singapore Awards (19 October 2017) and the IChemE Malaysia Awards (16 October 2017).

British actor, comedian and impressionist Chris Barrie is set to host this year’s ceremony. The actor, best known for playing Arnold Rimmer in hit sci-fi TV show Red Dwarf, will be returning to present at IChemE’s Global Awards, after presenting in 2008. This year, he will announce winners from all 15 award categories, including the overall Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering, which recognises the overall winner from all categories.

IChemE’s Chief Executive, Jon Prichard, said:

“I’m delighted to see we’ve had a fantastic variety of both innovative and progressive entries to this year’s IChemE Global Awards. You should all be very proud of your achievements.

“Thank you to everyone for submitting their applications. Our judges had a particularly tough job in narrowing down the finalists. I’d also like to thank the judges for their hard work and comprehensive assessment of the entries.

“Every day chemical engineers across the world are advancing the discipline and the Institution supports you at every step because chemical engineering matters. The IChemE Global Awards are just one of the ways for you to demonstrate your achievements to your peers.

“On behalf of IChemE, and our sponsors, I offer congratulations to all the finalists and I look forward to seeing you at the ceremony on 2 November in Birmingham.”
