Faster, higher, stronger: IChemE and Elsevier celebrate journal success

24th September 2010

Amsterdam and Rugby, 22 September 2010 - IChemE and Elsevier celebrated their successful publishing partnership in Prague, Czech Republic, at the recent 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (www.chisa.cz/2010/).

Ryszard Pohorecki, Professor Emeritus of the Warsaw University of Technology and former Senior Vice President of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, welcomed delegates to a reception celebrating the success of the partnership. The reception was extended to authors, reviewers and editors that have contributed to the partnership journals, helping to improve the submission rates and Impact Factors.

Professor Pohorecki equated the shared outlook of IChemE and Elsevier to the Olympic Games motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius. (Faster. Higher. Stronger.): 'Your work on the journals is of enormous value and is delivering Olympic results: citius - reducing the time from article submission to publication, altius - higher impact factors, fortius - stronger market presence reflected by the growth in downloads via science direct downloads.'

IChemE and Elsevier established a journal partnership two years ago and since then, there has been a significant increase in Impact Factors, ScienceDirect usage and submissions of papers for these journals. The impact factor of Chemical Engineering Research and Design increased from 0.989 (2008) to 1.223 (2009); Food and Bioproducts Processing increased from 0.511 (2008) to 0.952 (2009); and Process Safety and Environmental Protection increased from 0.400 (2008) to 1.124 (2009). Science Direct usage has already risen sharply across all titles of the partnership over the past year and IChemE and Elsevier expect a further growth of 25% and more this year. Submissions are equally set for strong growth across all titles. Food and Bioproducts Processing is leading the way with an expected 45% increase in submissions for 2010.
