John McAndrew
John is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over 15 years’ experience. He is currently based in Dunedin, NZ but started his career in the UK and spent eight years in Sydney, Australia, before relocating to Dunedin in 2017.
John is passionate about promoting global connectivity within IChemE, particularly in the water sector. As well as being the IChemE New Zealand representative for the lower South Island, he also holds a position as secretary of the IChemE Water Special Interest Group (and webinars coordinator). John is also an IChemE Chartered interviewer and was previously on the committee of the Warrington and Widnes (UK) members groups.
John has worked for global architectural and engineering firm Stantec for over 12 years (Stantec acquired MWH in 2016) and is currently the Asia Pacific Discipline Lead for Process Engineering. He specialises in wastewater treatment and odour control and his recent projects include lead process engineer for a major municipal wastewater treatment plant expansion in Fiji, lead process engineer for the Te Anau wastewater scheme, South Island New Zealand, odour control designer for Rosedale Thermal Hydrolysis plant (NZ’s first THP), lead engineer for the detail design of a 3MLD water recycling plant (MBR) and technical lead for the detailed design of a DN1800 fibreglass odour duct at the Malabar treatment plant in Sydney.
