The upcoming election process for the IChemE Board of Trustees

The call for nominations will open on 11 February 2025 at 14:00 GMT, and close on 4 March 2025 at 09:30 GMT.

From 11 February 2025 14:00 GMT, Chartered Members and Fellows are invited to submit their nominations for the vacant roles as detailed below.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of IChemE and therefore members appointed to the Board are responsible for ensuring IChemE complies with its charitable obligations and setting the strategic direction.

Detailed below are the list of retiring members of the Board of Trustees followed by the vacant roles for which nominations are now sought.

Retiring Board Members

In accordance with Regulation 1A.33, not later than eleven weeks before each Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Board of Trustees is required to send a list of the retiring members of the Board to each Voting Member (Fellow, Chartered Member and Associate Member) who is entitled to vote.

The office of President and Past President retire annually but are succeeded in accordance with the By-laws by the Deputy President and President, respectively. As a result the office of President will be filled by Professor Raffaella Ocone and the office of Past President will be filled by Mr Mark Apsey.

The full list of those Trustees retiring from service on the Board at the 2025 AGM is:

  • Dr David Edwards (Treasurer)
  • Professor Alan Harper (Vice President – Qualifications)

The following Trustees shall remain in office for the 2025/2026 term:

  • Mrs Andrea Hosey (Vice President – Member Engagement)
  • Professor Joan Cordiner (Vice President – Learned Society)
  • Ms Adriana Vargas-Colwill (Ordinary Member)
  • Mr Paul McLaughlin (Ordinary Member)
  • Mrs Helen Ramsay (Ordinary Member)
  • Mr Tawana Muchatuta (Regional/Ordinary Member – RoW seat)

Roles open

Nominations open 11 February 2025 14:00 GMT for the following positions. Some of the roles require members to have specific skills and experience or have reached a certain membership grade, therefore please view the role requirements before submitting your nominations.

  • President for 2026/2027 (Deputy President from June 2025) – this role is only open to Fellows of the Institution who are also Chartered Chemical Engineers
  • Treasurer
  • Vice President (Qualifications)
  • Regional/Ordinary Member (UK seat) – this role is only open to Chartered Members and Fellows who have a UK address. (This position has remained vacant since the 2024 AGM when Professor Ocone took on the role of Deputy President.)

Eligibility and experience required

Timescales

Nominations open on 11 February 2025 at 14:00 GMT and close on 4 March 2025 at 09:30 GMT.

If multiple valid nominations are received for any of the vacant positions, then a ballot of all eligible members will commence at the end of April. Successful candidates will take up their positions with effect from the end of IChemE’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 10 June 2025.
